Lil Wayne's Tha Carter III Almost Goes Gold First Day Out

It's Lil Wayne mania this week, as his Tha Carter III finally hits stores, and people are supporting.

Nielsen SoundScan has confirmed that Weezy is doing numbers and will easily nab the no. 1 spot on the Billboard 200, already putting up impressive numbers in its first day out.

Through the close of the business day on Tuesday (June 10), Lil Wayne's new album stood at 423,000 units sold. That's only the first day!!

Experts estimate that by the end of Tha Carter III's first week, it could record between 850,000-950,000 album sales, giving it the biggest sales week of the year, and best since Kanye West's Graduation started with 957,000 last year.

In comparison, West's Graduation saw a first-day sales of 437,000, about 3% more than that posted by Carter.

Billboard estimates the nine merchants who report to Nielsen SoundScan's Building chart (where these numbers came from) -- Trans World Entertainment, Best Buy, Circuit City, iTunes, Starbucks, Borders, Target, Anderson Merchandisers and Handleman Co. -- comprise about 80% of all U.S. album sales.

Tha Carter III is in stores now. It's second single is the Play-N-Skillz produced "Got Money" featuring T-Pain.
